Our Global Commitment
Pitt aspires to be a university that is committed to convening bright minds to explore and address global issues that improve life in the world’s local communities.
As featured in the University's Plan for Pitt and the Global Plan for Pitt, the University prioritizes global engagement with a concerted focus on Embracing the World. As a globally-minded institution, Pitt strives to:
- Connect our domestic and international pursuits to generate synergies that help strengthen our communities.
- Cultivate globally capable and engaged students for lives of impact in their communities and beyond.
- Rewire and improve our infrastructure to streamline, facilitate and expand engagement with the world.
- Convene a global community of researchers that advances our frontiers of knowledge and tackles real-world problems
Pitt's champions for global education are interwoven in all levels and departments of our institution. In addition to dedicated support from the Chancellor and Provost, the leadership is joined by a Vice-Chancellor for Global Affairs and Associate Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Global Affairs, Health Sciences. Together, these Vice-Chancellor roles span all Pitt departments, majors, and programs, offering global education experiences, both domestic to the entire Pitt community.
PittGlobal: Global Education In Practice
At the heart of PittGlobal, you will find the University Center for International Studies and its six Academic Centers, Pitt's Global Hub, Global Experiences Office (PittGEO), and an extensive language department.
Our role as a global university is simple. We focus on making lives better for people everywhere. We improve the health, quality of life, prosperity and social mobility of communities near and far. Our activities include global research pursuits, partnerships, policies, and the study of language and cultures. Our challenges don’t have borders. Why should we?
